Barbie Braveheart
Why the fuss?

Why the fuss?

One of the valves on Barb’s heart is faulty. She was born with a bicuspid aortic valve instead of a tricuspid valve like most people have. It doesn’t open all the way when it’s supposed to, so her heart has to pump harder to do its normal work. As this has gone on a while, it caused her heart to enlarge and also resulted in a large aortic aneurysm (a bulging artery that looks like a balloon instead of a straw.) It’s at a critical point and the doc said the valve needs to be replaced NOW. So Thursday morning at 5am, Barb will check into the hospital and undergo cardio-thoracic surgery. It should take between 4 to 6 hours, and the recovery time will be significant. She expects to be in the hospital 7-10 days. Her doc says that she is in great shape for this kind of surgery and expects a positive outcome.
